Living & Learning: Life’s Just Done Better with Podcasts
Podcasts are like a great friend, that brings you something refreshing & new to think about.
The more my business develops, the more I find my time to be extremely valuable.
January 1st, 2017 found me determined to maximize my time so that I get more out of it.
Which is interesting, because there’s that thing about not multi-tasking and focusing on one thing at a time, that I’m still getting comfortable with. And I’m finding that music and some sort of sound in the background helps me stay focused and keeps my mind on track and motivated.
A big part of what helps keep my studio space and my long drives to the city & beyond purposeful? are Podcasts. I’ve always been an on and off again podcast fan. But it wasn’t until recently that I grasped how many MANY podcasts of tons of different genres there are out there to enjoy. And I love it.
For someone who loves the work they do so much that they could work through the night, Podcasts are like a nice trade-off for when I need a mental break from doing the work and grooming my life.
Podcasts join me everywhere: Post-workout showers. To & from daycare. While shopping for groceries.
Life just gets done better with thoughtful company.
So here are some of my current favorites that I’m so excited to share with you:
Systems Saved Me
Fellow systems-enthusiast Jordan Gill interviews creative entrepreneurs and discusses their use of systems and the salvation they find in using them. Hearing how other people use systems is so fun and renewing. I found out about this podcast from Jordan’s article in Belong Magazine.
Tap Into Your Creativity, Tell Your Story, and Find Your Community Kayla Hollatz knows community and she’s so perfect for this time when a lot of freelance business owners are not around others that get what their doing. #createlounge is a great podcast and community with a monthly Twitter chat that brings creatives together and encourages them to find the creative balance in their pursuit of happiness in life & business.
The #MyTaughtYou podcast is hosted by Myleik Teele of Curlbox. Myleik’s podcast has been fortifying & empowering women in developing the career & life they want for themselves for 4+ years. She’s like your “cut through the bull, get to the heart”, and focus on what actually matters friend. Whether you’re 17 or 49, Myleik shares insights and now hosts guests that give you at the very least a wonderful sense of perspective to navigate your way to your own success.
UnStyled by Refinery29
UnStyled (hosted by Christene Barberich) features interviews with real women, who go after exactly what they want and enjoy the journey along the way. I don’t know how to summarize it, other than to say it’s like sipping a matcha tea latte and listening to your favorite magazine interview. It’s my favorite when I’m ready to wine-down for the day and tap into a colorful story about an amazing woman’s life.
I just love their energy and they are hilarious–like your two favorite girlfriends. Listening makes me feel like I’m up and out with my wine and girlfriends at a comedy club. From their website: Join the 2 Dope Queens, Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams, along with their favorite comedians, for stories about sex, romance, race, hair journeys, living in New York, and Billy Joel. Plus a whole bunch of other s**t.
The Potter’s Touch
Bishop T.D. Jakes is great for uplifting you and getting you in touch with your spiritual center. Very helpful for me, especially if I’ve got a long drive ahead + a long workday on location, or a long drive home. I like his messages and discovering his sermons. It’s very important for me to have a God-centered listening session available, when I need it.

Podcasts are so fantastic. It’s a (personal) digital way to connect and tap into topics and subjects in a passive way (vs. reading) it.
